Kim Kardashian is facing blackface accusations once again. On Thursday, December 19, the KUWTK star shared exclusive photos from her 7Hollywood magazine cover shoot. Minutes after the spread went public, fans criticized her noticeably darker skin tone and styling choices.
For the cover story, Kim rocked ‘90s-style makeup and short brunette tresses. She also wore a black sparkly Thierry Mugler-designed dress. Back in May 2019, Kim sported another dress by the same designer for the Met Gala.
In the comments section, fans pointed out that Kim’s skin appeared to be darker than usual. “Why is she trying to look like a black woman? Be who you are!” one user wrote. Another added, “Your skin is darker than usual.” “This should count as blackface,” a third noted.
Another fan suggested that she remove the post from social media. “They made you too dark sis. Delete,” the fan wrote. Although many felt differently, one fan claimed the blackface accusations were baseless. “@kimkardashian is of Armenian descent. Google traditional Armenian women and stop accusing her of blackface and everything under the sun," the person typed.
This isn’t the first time that the mother of four has been accused of the same issue. Following the release of her campaign ad for KKW Beauty, the lawyer-to-be addressed blackface claims on her family’s reality show in November 2017. "We wanted them really moody; it was really tan," Kim said. "I wanted to show the contour. The photos ended up being a little bit darker than I was. There were some people online saying I was doing blackface and the photos were inappropriate."
She continued, "The internet world is so toxic, and I feel like people are just waiting for you to make a mistake. I think have to address it because if I don’t it'll turn in one of those situations where people will think I’m trying to ignore something serious."
The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star emphasized the importance of taking accountability. "When you're running s**t, you just literally have to own up to it and change it and fix it...I fully understood what people were saying...I would never ever, ever do a photo shoot like that and I would never disrespect anyone," she concluded.
