Kim Kardashian Insists She Had 'Innocent Intentions' When Launching Kimono Shapewear Following Backlash Over Skinny Models & Offensive Name

Kim Kardashian claimed that her decision to launch her shapewear brand with the name "Kimono" was completely "innocent." After facing much backlash for cultural appropriation, the businesswoman is speaking out regarding her intentions.

“You would think we would have obviously thought it through a little bit deeper,” Kim, 38, told WSJ. Magazine.

The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star continued, "I’m the first person to say, ‘Okay, of course, I can’t believe we didn’t think of this.’ I obviously had really innocent intentions. But, let’s listen. And I want to really listen. And I want to really take it all in.”

Kim was slammed shortly after the shapewear line was launched for naming it after the traditional Japanese garment. In response to the fan hate, the mother of four announced plans to rename the label.

She added that she and husband Kanye West adore Japan and its culture.

"Kanye was in Japan when all of this was happening. It’s a place that we love and go to. I have such respect," the KKW Beauty CEO noted.

"I am always listening, learning and growing. I so appreciate the passion and varied perspectives that people bring to me. When I announced the name of my shapewear line, I did so with the best intentions in mind...After careful thought and consideration, I will be launching my Solutionwear brand under a new name," she wrote on Instagram on July 1.
