Happy birthday, Lamar Odom! The former Los Angeles Lakers star went out to celebrate his birthday at a club, where he was spotted dancing with a drink in hand. Fans were happy for him to make it to the milestone birthday. However, they raised concerns about whether or not Lamar should be drinking, given his history with addiction and life-threatening overdose in 2015. Lamar turned 40 on November 6.
A video on social media showed the former Miami Heat player wearing a blue tuxedo as he held what appeared to be an alcoholic drink and danced at a bar. Bottle girls donned in black leotards carried lit up bottles into the section Lamar was dancing in, and were followed by a man that carried a big sign that read “Happy Birthday Lamar.”
Fans were happy to see Lamar out enjoying the milestone birthday. “He has a lot to celebrate,” one person wrote on social media. “Glad he turned his life around. Big ups to Lamar Odom,” another chimed in. “This man almost lost his life. I’m glad he has found happiness,” a third wrote.
One user said that the New York native was “A walking miracle cause of the way his life was headed, many thought he was not gone be here.”
Even though the former NBA player was all smiles during his night out, fans appeared skeptical about how Lamar appeared to imbibe after his history with addiction. “Is he supposed to be drinking?” one fan commented. “Ain’t he recovering?” another asked. “Let’s hope that’s a natural high y’all” someone added.
In 2015, Lamar was found unconscious in a Nevada brothel following an overdose which left him in a coma. He suffered 12 strokes and six heart attacks while he was in a coma. One year later, he checked into rehab to deal with his drug addiction issues.
In May 2019, Lamar spoke about his efforts to stay sober. “When you’re an addict, that’s something that you live with forever,” he said. "You don’t just put that behind you. It takes years … everybody gets the urge, but getting high is not in my agenda right now.”
The former Dancing With The Stars contestant also said that his participation on the dance show let him to reflect on his overdose. “I'm lucky to be walking and talking, so this is just another hill I've had to climb,” he confessed. Lamar noted that learning certain dance moves showed how far he came, as his cognitive memory has improved greatly.
