Pastor Troy, 42, posted a photo on Instagram of Lil Nas X’s show-stopping outfit from the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards. “Welp, guess I won’t be winning a GRAMMY...If this what I gotta wear,” the D.S.G.B. rapper captioned the photo. “They love to push this s**t on our lids!!”

The rapper proceeded to describe an instance when he encountered a gay couple that made him upset.  “The other day @applebees had some punks kissing and laughing eating mozzarella sticks. First thing my 14 yr old son said was, ‘F**k Applebees,’ and it brought joy to my heart!! He sees it...their agenda to take the masculinity from men, black men especially.”

Lil Nas X fans also took to social media and slammed Pastor Troy for the homophobic comments. “I f**k with P Troy. But this was unnecessary. It's a form of bullying, and shaming,” one person wrote. “And anybody in his camp should press you about this post. Imagine your son being scrutinized on a social media for being black. I hope your peers check you to bruh.”

Others joked about Pastor Troy’s Grammy prospects. “You were never going to win a Grammy anyway so this was just hateful for no reason,” one fan wrote. Another said, “Pastor Troy is 105 worrying about a 20 year old boy winning a Grammy because he’s gay?! First of all ... no one knows you, you weren’t winning a Grammy in any lifetime.”

“I was like I don't just want to live my entire life, you know, not doing what I want to do,” Lil Nas X revealed in an interview with BBC in July 2019. “I want them other gay people to feel more comfortable pretty much. Especially within the country and hip hop communities.”
