After weeks of recovering from a respiratory infection that forced her to postpone her upcoming tour, Mariah Carey emerged at an event on Thursday where she was looking noticeably slimmer since her last public appearance! Reports swirled that she underwent weight loss surgery back in October due to online criticism from body shamers, and the pop diva definitely showed those trolls up when she arrived last night.
Mariah not only attended the AHF World AIDS Day and 30th Anniversary celebration in Los Angeles last night, but she also took to the stage to perform.
Prior to her showing up, she shared a photo on her Instagram and captioned it with "Feeling better and back at work! Looking forward to seeing you today at the World AIDS Day 2017 concert and then starting the Christmas tour festivities!” She wore a stunning little black dress that showcased her amazing slimmed down figure.
Sources reported back in early November that the “My All” singer underwent weight loss surgery and has lost 25 pounds since then. The procedure involved removing part of her stomach, which in turn helped her feel fuller faster.
The procedure can be done with a small incision, leaving her minimal scarring and a quick recovery. This may be why she was able to hop back into it only six weeks later with not only a performance, but her All I Want for Christmas Is You Tour, which is slated to start on Saturday in New York City.
There are two reasons for her alleged weight loss surgery. According to Page Six, sources say that it was a mix of people body shaming her online, but also her difficulties while performing.
"Mariah has always been proud of her curves, but this summer, as her Caesars Palace residency came to a close, and then she went on tour with Lionel Richie, she noticed it became harder to dance, and she was getting a lot more criticism online from body shamers,” the source revealed.
Whatever the reason may be, Mariah looks to be in good spirits as she also shared this adorable photo of her with her kids, Moroccan and Monroe, on their way to NYC! "On our way to New York! First show on Saturday at the Beacon theater, can't wait!! And thank you to the incredibly talented lamb for making this shirt "Supernatural" for Roc and Roe!” The singer wrote.
