Mark Salling was mourned by millions after it was revealed he killed himself earlier this week. The Glee actor was arrested back in December 2015 after being found with over 25,000 images and 600 videos depicting child pornography on computers and thumb drives.
“The autopsy was completed today and the doctor just posted the cause the cause of death asphyxia by hanging and the manner of death is suicide. The case is now closed and the body is ready for pick up,” Ed Winter of the Los Angeles Coroner Office told Us Weekly.
“His family is devastated,” a source told People. “His parents are doing as well as anyone in this situation can do. They’re from Texas and are very church-driven.”
The insider continued, “Mark’s mom had a hard time even grasping the reality of his dark past, so accepting his death — she’s a mess."
As reported, the actor was awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to possession of child pornography involving a prepubescent minor. A search warrant found 50,000 images of child porn on his computer and a thumb drive.
Sentencing in the case was scheduled to take place in March. Mark was facing 4 to 7 years in prison after agreeing to a plea deal. Back in August, a month and a half before striking the deal, Mark had cut his wrists in what appeared to be a suicide attempt. His lawyer though denied it at the time. After his death, his lawyer, Michael J Proctor, said in a statement: "I can confirm that Mark Salling passed away early this morning. Mark was a gentle and loving person, a person of great creativity, who was doing his best to atone for some serious mistakes and errors of judgement. He is survived by his mother and father, and his brother. The Salling family appreciates the support they have been receiving and asks for their privacy to be respected."
