Meghan Markle is welcoming changes into her life with an open heart! On Tuesday, January 14, the 38-year-old was spotted out and about for the first time since announcing she and Prince Harry’s plans to step back as senior members of the royal family.
In the photos, Meghan wore a heavy winter jacket, brown boots and black pants. She smiled from ear-to-ear as she boarded a plane to Vancouver from Canada. Upon landing, the mother of one visited a women’s center where she “offered support” and “boosted the staff’s spirits.”
Shortly after her visit, a staff member from the center posted a photograph on Facebook of Meghan standing next to a group of eight women. “Look who we had tea with today!” the post read. “The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, visited us today to discuss issues affecting women in the community.”
The staffer added, “Meghan asked what the women would need in terms of support. It was a nice meeting.”
On January 8, Meghan and Prince Harry, 35, shared a statement in which they revealed their plans to step away from their royal duties. “After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution,” they began. “We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.”
Following lengthy discussions, Queen Elizabeth shared that she was “fully supportive” of Meghan and Prince Harry’s decision to step away and split their time between the United Kingdom and Canada.
"My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan's desire to create a new life as a young family. Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working Members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family," Her Majesty said in a statement.
