Meghan Trainor’s father Gary Trainor was hospitalized and reported to be in “stable condition” after he was injured on Friday, February 21, after he was hit by a car while crossing a street according to Us Weekly.
Gary, 71, was crossing a busy street near the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, California when a car struck him. Shortly after the accident, Gary was transported to a local hospital. Reps for Meghan, 26, told Us that he was in a stable condition.
Entertainment Tonight reported that the incident happened at 8:15 p.m. and that the vehicle and driver remained at the scene with the Los Angeles Police Department.
The “No” singer and her dad are very close, and he has even helped her write several songs on her 2011 album, Only 17, including “Cupid.”

Gary has also accompanied her as her date to many award shows including the 2016 Grammy Awards where she won Best New Artist. The two were both spotted crying when Meghan’s name was announced.
At the time, the “All About That Bass” singer shared a snap on Instagram of herself and her dad in tears. “This is me forever … bawling my eyes out. Can’t believe what happened. My dad whispered ‘you made it’ before I walked up and I lost it. I love my family so much. Without them, I wouldn’t be here today. Thank you to my team and everyone who got me here,” Meghan captioned to the touching photo. “Thank you to my team and everyone who got me here. Gonna cry happy tears all night. AHHHHHH.”
In January 2020, Gary made a surprise appearance on The Voice U.K. when Meghan invited him up on stage to play “Shake, Rattle and Roll” on the keyboards while her fellow judge Tom Jones sang.
During an interview with Billboard in 2016, the “Dear Future Husband” singer—who grew up singing in a family band which featured her dad, her aunt Lisa and her younger brother, Justin—credited her father for inspiring her vocal style. “My dad thinks he’s James Brown sometimes,” Meghan explained. “He’s very soulful. He’ll just go, ‘How you doing’, baby?”
