Mel B and her sister Danielle are mourning the loss of their great grandmother, who passed away on October 1. Both sisters expressed their condolences on Instagram and agreed to fly out to Nevis to attend the funeral.
Mel, 44, shared a photo of her great grandmother on Instagram on October 1. “Deeply saddened by the passing of my great grandma in the early hours of this morning, she was 107 and what a woman she was,” she wrote.
“I feel the need to fly right now to Nevis to pay my respects,” she added. “@missdaniellebrown let’s go #familyiseverything #shockedandupset #ripgreatgrandma #youwillbemissed.”
Phoenix shared her mother’s post and wrote, “I love you. RIP to the strongest OG in Nevis. I miss you already.”
Mel B’s sister Danielle, 38, posted a photo from a past visit to see her grandmother. “RIP great grandma Celian Martin Powell,” she wrote. Such sad news and what an age you lived to 107!!! The oldest Lady on Nevis island, you were a true legend.”
Danielle added, “I am sure dad will look after you in heaven, your legacy lives on in your ever growing family, you will be truly missed.” The sisters who were previously estranged are both traveling to Nevis for their grandmother’s funeral.
Mel and Danielle’s father Martin died in March 2017 after a long cancer battle. The Spice Girl and her sister were estranged at the time due to the family’s disapproval of her ex-husband Stephen Belafonte and Mel did not fly out for the funeral.
The Spice Girl reflected on that moment in a birthday tribute to her dad in May. She wrote, “Happy birthday dad I'm missing you more now than ever, I really really am in the most amount of pain, it is actually unbearable!!”
Mel added, “But I do wish you could see me now happy and strong I am now. Thank God, I know you would be sooo proud of me and of Danielle. We have morphed into you now big time we don’t deal with people who hurt us in life and we stick together as a family thanks to you dad, I love you sooo much, I just wish I could of had one more day one more cuddle that’s all #imissyou.”
