Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino is celebrating his 4th anniversary of being sober on December 24! The Jersey Shore: Family Vacation star opened up about what this milestone means for him in a candid interview published on December 23.
“It is pretty cool. I’m so excited because four years is a really big milestone and I feel like I really beat the odds,” Mike, 37, told Page Six. “And I’m very grateful that I have my beautiful wife Lauren by my side. We’re sort of fighting the good fight and we’re sort of sharing the blueprint of what has worked for myself and our family.”
In honor of the holidays and Mike’s sobriety journey, the Jersey Shore star and Lauren, 34, teamed up with Banyan Treatment Centers in Florida to give away a 30-day drug and alcohol rehab stay for someone struggling with addiction. The couple is going to announce the recipient on Mike’s sobriety anniversary, December 24.
“Being sober and living a life of integrity has really opened up so many doors for me. I feel like I’m really my best self right now, living my best life and now I want to share it and teach others to do the same,” Mike added.
The Jersey Shore star has been celebrating his sobriety anniversary all month long. “The comeback is truly greater than the setback,” Mike told Us Weekly on December 5. “I am showing my friends, family and fans by example that your current situation is not your final destination and to never give up on yourself.”
As OK! readers know, Mike has been clean since 2015 after battling an addiction to prescription medication. The Jersey Shore star is also prohibited from doing drugs while on a 2-year probation following his prison release in September 2019.
In November, Mike clapped back at a fan who accused him of using steroids to achieve his muscular build. “I am flattered you think I am on performance-enhancing substances but I am not,” the Jersey Shore star said. “I am on probation and get tested biweekly for illegal substances.”
He added, “What you see is hard work, determination, proper diet, exercise, muscle memory, intermittent fasting, prison and genetics. You should try it sometime!! People love to throw shade on what shines. Stay in your own lane and run your own race cuz!! Do you even lift!?”
