Miley Cyrus is being sued for $300 million over her song “We Can’t Stop.” Jamaican songwriter Michael May, who goes by the stage name Flourgon, has filed the lawsuit, claiming that Miley stole lyrics from his 1988 song, “We Run Things,” to create the 2013 hit!

Michael claims that 50% of Miley’s chart topper comes from his lyrics, Reuters reported. He has accused Miley and her label RCA Records of misappropriating the phrase “We run things. Things no run we,” and changing it to, “We run things. Things don’t run we.”
Michael’s song was a number one hit in Jamaica. Last November, he won “formal copyright protection” from the U.S. Copyright Office for all musical arrangements in “We Run Things.”

According to Michael’s complaint, filed with the U.S. District Court in Manhattan, “We Can’t Stop” “owes the basis of its chart-topping popularity to and its high-lucrative success to plaintiff May’s protected, unique, creative and original content.”
In addition to suing Miley for $300 million in damages, Michael has also requested that she put a halt to further sales and performances of the song.
“We Can’t Stop” was a hit in 2013, where it peaked at number two behind the Robin Thicke song, “Blurred Lines.”
