Miranda Lambert was overjoyed to share photos of herself at the NYC Pride Parade with her husband Brendan McLoughlin, her brother Luke and Luke’s husband! The country singer, however, didn’t realize how anxious it made her brother or that she was going to get so many hateful comments from fans.

“I didn’t even realize it was making a statement because I just thought it was normal,” Miranda, 35, told Pride Source. “I didn’t think it was stepping out of bounds or anything because to me it’s all the same, it doesn’t matter. And I was just there celebrating with my brother and his husband and having a great time. But if it makes somebody happy that I’m a supporter, I’m glad.”

Miranda revealed she asked Luke if it was fine to post the photos on Instagram. “He was giving me permission to post about it and we both cried because it was such a big moment,” she said. “I see now, talking about it, why it’s a big moment for other people because it was a big moment for us too.”

The Pistol Annie’s singer opened up about her small hometown being “not the best” environment for LGBTQ youth. “The few kids I did know who were in the LGBTQ community would confide in my mom because my mom worked in our youth group and she was a really cool mom. You could kind of tell her everything,” she said.

Miranda also revealed that she got quite a lot of negative comments about going to WorldPride from the country music fan community. “I don’t understand why people have time to get on social media and be negative,” she said. “So I just don’t let those affect me. But I also know that if you’re polarizing, you must have an impact. Can’t be loved by everybody.”

“It was the happiest day,” she said of her first experience at a Pride parade. “I’ve never seen that many people in that great of a mood in one place in my life. It was so cool, and there was glitter and rainbows everywhere. It was kind of like a little fantasyland.”
