Naomi Campbell is opening up about a harrowing experience with racism she encountered while attending the Cannes Film Festival back in May.

The 49-year-old spoke candidly to Paris Match where she detailed the situation.

The legendary catwalk queen talked about diversity in the fashion world as well the incident to the publication. “I was recently in a city in the south of France, at the time of the Cannes Film Festival, where I was invited to participate in an event in a hotel whose name I will not mention,” she explained.

“The guy at the entrance pretended that the place was complete,” the Star actress continued. “He did not want to let my friend and I in because of the color of my skin … But he let other people pass.”

The British beauty admitted she was “shocked” in the moment and it urged her to speak out about the experience. She said that these are “permanent” challenges that people of color face daily.

“I have always wanted people to be treated fairly. I do not believe that it goes without saying. The challenge is permanent,” she added. “It is because of these kinds of shocking moments that I will continue to express myself and make myself heard.”
