Nicki Minaj and her husband Kenneth Petty had a not-so-friendly run-in with her ex-boyfriend Meek Mill. On Friday, January 24, Kenneth, 41, and the “Going Bad” rapper, 32, got into a screaming match while shopping at a luxury clothing store in West Hollywood, California. Here’s everything we know about the messy encounter.
In the video that has been circulating the internet, the Philly rapper, Kenneth, and Nicki, 37, could be heard yelling at each other before Meek is held back and eventually escorted out of the high-end clothing store, Maxfield, by his security team and some of the employees of the shop.
It’s unclear why or how the argument started, however, judging by the exchange, both groups are not fond of each other. “Talk to me one-on-one,” one of them could be heard saying before Kenneth calls Meek a “p***y.” The “Championships” rapper returns the sentiments before the voice assumed to be Nicki continues to shout at Meek and calls him a “b***h” and accuses him of not being over her.
Rapper Retch was also at the store and shared photos on Instagram showing him posing separately with both Nicki and Meek. Retch, 26, addressed the incident during an Instagram Live video where he claimed that “everything was all love” and “then a whole commotion just started” and alleged that Kenneth wanted to fight with Meek.
Nicki and Meek dated for two years before the “Barbie Dreams” announced their split in January 2017. The “Super Bass” rapper spoke candidly about their breakup during an interview with Elle in June 2018 saying, “I remember feeling like I could do anything at one time in my life. And somewhere along the line, I just started second-guessing myself, for whatever reason … as soon as I realized that I could actually live and breathe, and eat and sleep, and walk and talk without having a boyfriend, something clicked in me.”
She continued, “Becoming single was one of the things that made me feel strong and powerful. The fact that I am a young woman who doesn’t need a man for money. I don’t need a man for a job. I’ve never had to f**k for beats. I’ve never had to f**k for a record deal. I don’t’ have those pressures. I get up when I want, shop when I want.”
Meanwhile, Nicki and Kenneth initially dated when they were teenagers and later reconnected in 2018. The “Chun-Li” rapper made her relationship Instagram official in December 2018 and the two tied the knot in October 2019, four months after Nicki revealed on her Queen Radio show that they had obtained their marriage license.
Nicki told fans, “I think I have what I was striving for, just happiness.” She added, “It was so hard to get to a happy place. Now that I’m there, I don’t want to compromise that for anyone or anything.”
