Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi is opening up about the moment she realized she wanted to retire from Jersey Shore. The MTV star got candid in a clip from her upcoming appearance on The Mel Robbins Show.
“I think when I was, like, actually forcing myself to be in a situation that I wasn’t happy in. Like, I was forcing myself to be ‘happy,’ and I’m like, ‘That’s not me.’ I’m not genuinely happy,” the 32-year-old admitted. “That’s when I’m like, ‘I’m out.’”
The mother of two continued, "It was a really hard decision, but I had to think about my happiness and where I really wanted myself to be, and it’s being a mom and being with my kids and not drama and drinking … and drama."
On December 6, Snooki announced she was retiring from Jersey Shore during an episode of her podcast It’s Happening With Snooki and Joey. She confessed she wanted to quit in order to spend more time with her children, Lorenzo, 7, Giovanna, 5, and Angelo, six months.
“I’m thankful for Jersey Shore and my fans,” she said on her podcast. “I love you so much and don't hate me for my decision, but I have to do what's best for me at the moment, and I am retiring from Jersey Shore.”

She added, “I just can’t do it anymore. Literally, leaving my kids to film it is really hard on me. I try and quit every single day. I just hate being away from the kids. I don’t like partying three days in a row. It’s just not my life anymore. I want to be home with the kids.”
“I'm putting myself out there and I just want to come off as a good person and lately, on the show, it's just been very dramatic,” Snooki said.
A source told Us Weekly at the time that the New Jersey native's costars were blindsided by the news. “Nicole did not tell all her Jersey Shore castmates that she was retiring before she made the announcement. It came as a surprise to more than one of them.”
