Nikki Bella Confesses She Didn't Want To 'Hurt' Ex John Cena With Her Relationship With Artem Chigvintsev

Nikki Bella got candid in a recent interview about her July 2018 split from ex John Cena and how she moved forward by falling in love with her fiancé Artem Chigvintsev. The Total Bellas star opened up about her six-year relationship with John, 42, and how it took her a while to "commit" to the Russian ballroom dancer.

Nikki, 36, started officially dating Artem, 37, in July 2019, one year after her breakup from John. Artem and Nikki confirmed they were engaged on January 3. The WWE star announced she was pregnant with the Dancing With The Stars pro's first child on January 29.

Nikki revealed to People that she wanted to keep her relationship from hurting the Bumblebee star. “I never wanted John to also think photos of Artem and I was me intentionally trying to hurt him. I just wish I could have lived that privately so no one would get hurt,” she said.

“Everyone starts to make something of something. And I just didn’t want anyone to get hurt. I also wanted time to feel okay. I didn’t want to hurt Artem. I didn’t want to hurt John. It took me a while,” the Total Divas personality added.

She also told the publication that it took her “a while to commit” to Artem. However, she fell hard for him fast. Nikki admitted that it took her a "long time" to get comfortable with Artem.

“Like, how am I falling for this guy? We’re so opposite. I never would have thought I would have been with a Russian ballroom dancer. It’s crazy, like I slammed people for a living, but we have so much in common. But it took me a long time," Nikki continued.

“I’m so in love,” she gushed. “It’s just, it’s scary.” Nikki added that when she first announced her engagement, she wondered if she was rushing the milestone. While the engagement was disclosed earlier this month, Artem actually proposed during a romantic trip to France in November 2019.
