Paris Hilton might have popularized “That’s hot,” but she wasn’t the mastermind behind the catchphrase. On December 18, the actress confessed that she stole the expression from her sister, Nicky Hilton. Paris, 38, used the tagline throughout her time on The Simple Life.

In a video interview with Vogue, Paris revealed the origin of the saying. “I started making shirts that said, ‘That’s hot,’ and on the back they said, ‘You’re not.’ It was cute,” she recalled. “‘That’s hot’ was something that my sister always used to say, but I trademarked it and I own it. Sorry, Nicky.”

Paris popularized the phrase on her hit show, The Simple Life. In 2007,she was granted three trademarks for the expression — one for men and women’s clothing, one for electronic devices, and a third for alcoholic beverages.

That same year, the New York native sued Hallmark for an infringement in one of their cards. The case, which assessed the tricky balance between publicity rights and the First Amendment, was settled in 2010.

Paris also reflected on her past style, including the iconic Juicy Couture tracksuits she always wore. “As soon as I put on my first Juicy tracksuit, I was obsessed,” she gushed. “I said, ‘Please send me more. I want the full collection. Every single color. I just fell in love with the brand and it basically became my uniform. I have an entire closet that’s only Juicy Couture. It’s somewhere I go every single day and just put on my Juice.” Paris became hooked on the fashion staple when her friend and publicist, Lara Shriftman, sent her a box from the then-emerging brand.

The socialite continued, “I was not only wearing them to the airport or just to chill in my house. I was going out at night in them and I was rocking them with everything. So I think that they loved that I was kind of like the face of the brand.”

Paris also credited The Simple Life for helping turn the designer label into a household name. “They didn’t say where we were going, so I didn’t even know what to pack. I basically packed all of my favorite outfits — included a lot of Juicy, a lot of pink, a lot of heels,” she remembered.

The reality star added, “Juicy is something that we wore almost every single day because we are always having to do these jobs. We didn’t wanna just be in like overalls or jeans. We wanted to be comfortable and cute.”

After the show aired, Paris was amazed to see how many people started rocking the colorful velour outfits.  “It makes me feel proud to have such an impact in fashion history,” she quipped.
