This year, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle celebrated Thanksgiving together away from the Palace. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, along with baby Archie, jetted to Los Angeles and spent the holiday with Meghan’s mom, Doria Ragland. They also plan to spend Christmas in the United States. It is still unclear where the little family will spend the rest of their break from their royal duties.
According to the HeirPod podcast, Harry, 35, and Meghan, 38, celebrated Thanksgiving with close family on a “long-time trip” to the United States. Royal correspondent Omid Scobie revealed in the podcast, “The Sussexes are away, they're on their break right up until Christmas. They celebrated Thanksgiving privately with close family, which is lovely.”
Omid added, “It's a long-time trip that they're on, I think we are really going to see them away until Christmas as far as I'm aware, which is good for them.”
Meghan is reportedly a talented chef, and loves being in the kitchen. Royal correspondent Katie Nicholl speculated that the former Suits actress prepared food for her family that day, as she allegedly “takes great pleasure in bringing people together over a family meal.”
The late November trip to Los Angeles marked six-month-old Archie’s first visit to the United States.
In October, it was announced that the Sussexes would be taking a six-week sabbatical for some “much-needed family time.” At the time it was reported that the Sussexes would spend Christmas with the Queen in England. However, weeks later, it was revealed that they would spend it in Los Angeles.
Buckingham Palace shared the news on November 13. “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are looking forward to extended family time towards the end of this month,” the statement read. “Having spent the last two Christmases at Sandringham, the couple will spend the holiday this year, as a new family, with the Duchess’ mother, Doria.”
The statement added, “This decision is in line with precedent set previously by other members of the royal family, and has the support of Her Majesty The Queen.”
Meghan previously spent Christmas with the royal family at Sandringham in 2018.
