Just weeks before the royal family and the rest of the world join in seeing Prince Harry wed Meghan Markle, the family has a health scare due to Prince Philip, who is 96-years-old, undergoing hip surgery. Due to his age, there’s concern that he won’t be able to recover.
The Buckingham Palace issued a statement on Tuesday, saying, “His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London this afternoon, for planned surgery on his hip which will take place tomorrow. Further updates will be issued when appropriate.”
Last year, Prince Philip retired from his public duties and official engagements, though at the time it was claimed that the decision was not health-related.
However, in recent days, Prince Philip, who is currently in the King Edward VII Hospital in London, has skipped out on several public engagements.

A royal source at the time said he was experiencing “trouble with his hip.” This is not the first time he’s dealt with a health issue. The royal was hospitalized for an infection stemming from a “pre-existing condition” last June.
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip have been married since 1947.
