Holiday Kickoff! Stars Celebrate At The Rockefeller Christmas Tree Lighting

Today hosts Hoda KotbSavannah GuthrieAl Roker, and Craig Melvin kicked off Christmas celebrations in New York on Wednesday, Nov. 28, with the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting. The televised event featured performances from Diana RossJohn Legend, The Radio City Rockettes, and more!

This year’s tree was 72 feet tall. It was covered in multicolored lights and topped with a 900-pound Swarovski crystal star. The tree, which is 75-years-old, was donated by a couple from 60 miles north of the city.

The ceremony opened up with John. He sang Stevie Wonder's 1967 hit “What Christmas Means To Me,” then followed it up with the classic, “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.”

Diana closed the show. She sang “Someday at Christmas,” “Wonderful Christmastime,” and her own song, “Home.”

The Radio City Rockettes also put on a magical performance which included their signature sky high kick line.

Other performers included Brett EldridgeDiana KrallTony BennettKellie PicklerRob ThomasMartina McBride, and Ella Mai. They all sang traditional Christmas carols.
