‘Roseanne' Cast Reveals How They're Getting Past Their Political Differences

The past couple of years have seen a major political division happen all over the world, and issues that arise can unfortunately bleed into the workplace. For the cast of Roseanne, whose reboot premiered last night on ABC, they've been doing their best to overcome their political differences as their titular star is a big supporter of President Donald Trump, while others simply aren’t. Roseanne Barr has been an unapologetic supporter of Trump and so has her character Roseanne Conner, which became one of the storylines during Tuesday night’s premiere.

Lecy Goranson, who originated the role of Becky on the show's initial run and is back in the reboot, spoke about how the cast has been overcoming their political differences during an interview with People Now

She spoke about how the legendary comedian’s honesty in real life isn’t anything new. "Roseanne herself has always been controversial and outspoken, and the rest of the cast is well aware of that,” she said.

“All you have to do is remember the national anthem to remember an aspect of her like that, and that’s just who she is.”  The incident that Lecy was referring to is when Roseanne performed the National Anthem during a baseball game in 1990, when she shrieked throughout and at one point grabbed her crotch, for which she received a ton of backlash.

Regardless, Lecy and the rest of the cast have Roseanne’s back, even though they don’t see eye to eye on the current political climate. "I think that it’s pretty common knowledge that none of the rest of us are Trump supporters or whatever, but I think that there’s a respect that we all have for each other that’s not different with her. She’s entitled to speak out in whatever way she chooses and we support that. We don’t support maybe what she supports, but we support her voicing what she thinks.”
