Sarah Hyland got real with followers on National Selfie Day. The Modern Family star shared a picture of her swollen face, revealing she’d been hospitalized after a “painful” health scare.
Sarah shared this photo, in which her cheeks and under eyes were visibly swollen. “Sometimes a selife is more than just a good angle and feelin cute. This time for #nationalselfieday I’ve decided to share my truth. As painful as it is,” she wrote.
“So here is my face that was torn from work against my will. But I’m very grateful it was. Health should always come first,” Sarah wrote, adding the hashtag #stayhealthymyfriends.”
Sarah also shared a video of herself playing with her dog, taken last Sunday. “This was taken this past Sunday. Day before hospitalization. She was literally telling me to get treatment,” Sarah wrote. “Can’t wait to come back to my precious angel princess. She’s perfect and knows exactly what I need at all times.”
Sarah was born with kidney dysplasia, which means her kidneys did not develop correctly in the womb. In 2012, she underwent a life-saving kidney transplant. In 2017, she slammed haters who accused her of being anorexic.
“My circumstances have put me in a place where I’m not in control of what my body looks like. I am working hard to maintain my weight by eating as much protein as possible and continue to be STRONG and healthy,” she tweeted.
