For the first time since her kidney transplant over the summer, Selena Gomez is talking about the procedure and the friend who volunteered to help save her life, Francia Raisa. In a clip from their sit-down interview with Savannah Guthrie on Today, which airs in full on Monday, Selena, 25, and Francia, 29, discussed the surgery and Francia’s selfless decision to donate her own kidney to Selena.
“My kidneys were just done,” Selena told Savannah. “That was it and I didn’t want to ask a single person in my life.”
Luckily, Francia volunteered without Selena evening needing to ask. “And she volunteered to do it,” Selena revealed.
“You feel that Francia saved your life?” Savannah asked. Selena, becoming emotional, replied, “Because she did. That’s it.”

“I guess it got to the point where it was really kind of life or death,” Serena added.
“There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa,” Selena wrote at the time. “She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis.”
