Shay Mitchell and her boyfriend Matte Babel are proud parents of a baby girl! On Sunday, October 20, the Pretty Little Liars alum shared a glimpse of her daughter on Instagram with the caption “Never letting go.” As sweet as the caption was, Shay, 32, didn’t have an enjoyable experience giving birth.
On the most recent episode of her YouTube series Almost Ready, Shay revealed that she endured 33 hours of labor. The 11-minute video showed Shay’s reaction to her water breaking before heading to the hospital. "Oh my god, my water's breaking," she said.
After arriving at the hospital, Shay feared for her daughter’s life after not feeling her move in her stomach for quite some time. Shortly after, an ultrasound proved that her baby girl was doing just fine.
A couple hours into labor, Shay stated that she doesn’t understand how women are able to endure pain for numerous hours. "I don't know how people do this for like 36 hours. Some people 72 hours, like how? I'm just, I'm just so tired. I didn't sleep last night," Shay said to Matte.
Although Matte previously urged Shay not to get an epidural, the You actress gave in after hitting the 23-hour mark. Three hours before giving birth, Shay’s Doula shared that the actress has the possibility of getting an infection due to her water being broken for 30 hours.
When it was time to push, Matte comforted Shay with words of encouragement. “Good job babe,” Matte said in the video.
"The past nine months have been more than I ever imagined. Pregnancy has been one of the most exciting, challenging and physically demanding things I've ever done. It's brought a new meaning to family and my partnership with Matte — I've watched my daughter develop and grow and now I'm READY to meet her!" the video’s description reads on YouTube.
Keeping things lighthearted, Shay admitted after giving birth that she couldn’t wait to meet her daughter and finally eat some food. "I was 99% excited to meet her and 1% excited to eat something," Shay said while holding her new bundle of joy.
