‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 Trailer Confirms Hopper Will Return

This Valentine’s Day, the Stranger Things trailer for the fourth season comes from Russia with love. On February 14, Netflix dropped a teaser for the upcoming season of the sci-fi series, and confirmed that Jim Hopper, portrayed by David Harbor, will return.

In the short and suspenseful clip, aerial shots and close-ups showed members of the military and other workers building train tracks. In the last few seconds, fans got a glimpse of a cleanly shaven Hopper before the video cut to black.

“We’re excited to officially confirm that production on “Stranger Things 4” is now underway — and even more excited to announce the return of Hopper!” the Duffer Brothers said in a statement. “Although it’s not all good news for our ‘American’; he is imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human … and other.”

The statement continued, teasing what’s to come for Eleven, portrayed by Millie Bobby Brown, and the rest of the Hawkins, Indiana crew. “Meanwhile, back in the States, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything. Season 4 is shaping up to be the biggest and most frightening season yet, and we cannot wait for everyone to see more. In the meantime, pray for the American.”

During season three's finale, Hopper heartbreakingly sacrificed himself in order to save everyone else and close the gate. However, in the final moments of the latest season, a scientific base in Russia was shown, and one unseen character was referred to as “The American.” The cliffhanger led to fans speculating whether or not Hopper was in there.

“99% of me knew Hopper was alive, it was that 1% that just needed reassuring,” one fan tweeted after the trailer aired. “Hopper from Stranger Things is still alive and that's the best news I've heard all year,” another wrote. “I F**KING KNEW IT!!!!” a third said.
