They get along when the cameras are rolling, but Gwen Stefani has said she is sometimes rubbed the wrong way by fellow judge, Adam Levine. “He’s offensive to me sometimes,” she said of the Maroon 5 front man. “He is so inappropriate. And I have been in a band with all boys for my whole life — I know inappropriate!” She continued: “He’s just on another level. Adam has raised the bar for me. He has gone places that my band hasn’t gone. He’s bad. Whatever version of this show you see at home, I get the X-rated version.”

The tight contract competitors must sign in order to be on the show gives producers free reign to do almost anything they want. This means top execs can, according to a contract snippet posted by RadarOnline, “cut anyone; bend or break rules at their discretion and script winners.”

The New York Daily News found a clause in the show’s contract that says contestants’ portrayals on the show “may be disparaging, defamatory, embarrassing (and) may expose them to public ridicule, humiliation or condemnation;” or could “portray them in a false light.” They are also permitted to “send the singing hopefuls for medical or psychological tests; and broadcasting the results if they choose to.”

Last May, there was outcry from angry fans who accused producers of altering the results by discarding Internet and social media votes. In the finale, host Carson Daly said iTunes votes would not be counted because, as E! News reported, "the Apple music site had a glitch that kept the third finalist, Josh Kaufman out of the most downloaded Top 10."

But you can have it all if you win, right? Wrong. Season one winner Javier Colon told Buddy TV that while winning was great, he felt that there was a lack of support after the show ended. “The unfortunate part of the situation, however, was the unforeseen bad marriage between the label and I,” he said. “I went into it with high hopes, as I believe everyone did.

There also have been rumors of dissension among the judges. According to one report, ex-judge Christina Aguilera, who went on maternity leave, is “extremely threatened” by her “temporary replacement,” Stefani. “She knows that if the ratings are higher on Gwen’s season than they were on hers, the producers may have no choice but to ask Gwen to stay on,” an insider told OK!
