In Whole New You: How Real Food Transforms Your Life, for a Healthier, More Gorgeous You, Mowry wrote about the pressure she felt to remain thin and beautiful while on TV, according to the Daily Mail.

"I didn't feel fat," the actress writes in an except of the book published in People, "but the pressure of being on television and wanting to look sexy and beautiful took over." That's when she started to take diet pills.

"I'm not proud of it," she writes. "I got skinny, true, but the pills caused my heart to race, and I knew in my gut that I was hurting myself."

Once she went to college, she stopped taking the pills after being impacted by a lecture in her psychology class, she said. She also went vegan in 2013 and told Momtastic she's never felt more "energized, alive, and well!"
