It’s every 90s baby’s dream come true – Total Request Live is returning to MTV. (It seriously feels like Christmas in July!) The music network recently announced that the pop culture behemoth that facilitated megastars like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and many more celebs’ TV debuts, will be coming back to its iconic Times Square studio in October!

“If we’re going to come back and reinvent MTV, the studio is a given,” MTV’s president, Chris McCarthy, told The New York Times. “It is the centerpiece.”

The network’s decision to reboot the popular MTV show is reportedly an attempt to boost MTV’s ratings by returning to its music video roots.

While the show will be returning to its old stomp in grounds in Times Square, TRL’s original host, Carson Daly, will not be returning. Instead, the new TRL will be an hour long live broadcast that will feature five VJs including Erik Zachary, a Chicago radio host, and rapper DC Young Fly, who’s best known from his appearance on Nick Cannon’s MTV comedy sketch show Wild ‘N Out.

In another effort to bring MTV back to all its original music video glory, McCarthy also revealed to The Times that network is replacing its famous "Moon Man" Video Music Award statuette with a gender-neutral "Moon Person."

“Why should it be a man?” Mr. McCarthy told the paper. “It could be a man, it could be a woman, it could be transgender, it could be nonconformist.”
