Vanessa and her hubby Nick Lachey are expecting their second child soon. But Vanessa revealed that she struggled to connect emotionally with her growing belly while pregnant with the couple’s first child Camden.

“I felt guilty because everyone told me about this love I’d feel, and I wasn’t there yet,” she said. “I remember asking Nick, ‘Is something wrong with me? I’ve wanted this my whole life and I’m forcing myself to have those feelings.’”
But once she found out that she was having a boy, Vanessa says she began to quickly become attached to her little one. “For me, the love really flowed when I found out the baby was a boy. That’s when I could finally bond, once I knew ‘it’ was a him,” she said.
She also admitted that raising her newborn son wasn’t always the easiest experience. Vanessa said there was a lot she had to learn about motherhood early on. “Remember to be patient. It’s hard! As a baby, Camden would take about an hour to breastfeed. By the time he finished, it was almost time to feed again,” she said.
But Vanessa considers those early struggles a lesson in patience. And she credits her experience with Camden as helping her shed any worries the second time around.

“We stumble and make mistakes, too, but that’s what learning is. That’s the beauty of it. Every mother out there knows what she’s doing, whether she believes it yet or not,” she said.
And she also encouraged other mothers to embrace their own greatness at all times.
“Don’t feel like you’re not doing enough when you see a mom posting about making applesauce after you bought it,” Vanessa said jokingly. “It’s fine! Just for raising a little human being you should be commended.”
