Wendy Williams competed against Ellen DeGeneres at the People’s Choice Awards for The Daytime Talk Show of 2019. The Ellen DeGeneres Show host took home the award on Sunday, November 10 and Wendy threw shade at the winner the following morning.
Wendy, 55, played a pop culture trivia game with her audience on the November 11 episode of The Wendy Williams Show. “Did you watch the awards last night?” she asked an audience member.
The talk show host paused and said, “Congratulations, Ellen, you won again.”
Wendy dramatically rolled her eyes and added, “She’s the people’s choice… alright.”
The Ellen DeGeneres Show went up against The View, Red Table Talk, Live With Kelly and Ryan, Today, Good Morning America, The Real, and The Wendy Williams Show for the daytime award. “I get to do a lot of fun things, but nothing feels better than the support I get from my incredible fans. Thank you. These People’s Choice Awards are dedicated to my peoples,” Ellen tweeted after her win.
Ellen, 61, also won the award for Social Celebrity of 2019, beating out Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Kim Kardashian, Cardi B, Shawn Mendes, and Justin Bieber.
Wendy’s dig at Ellen comes after the comedian won the award for the Favorite Talk Show Host. She has received the honor consecutively since 2005. In 2017, she became the most decorated PCA winner and racked up her 20th award. “20 is outrageous — this is really something that means more to me because it comes from the people. You are the people who are responsible for me being up here, so I say thank you people,” she said at the time.
Wendy, who recently received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, was only nominated for one category this year and didn’t take home the award.
The two hosts have also competed against each other at the Daytime Emmy Awards. Wendy was nominated four times but has never won. Ellen, on the other hand, has 53 nominations and has won 31 times.
