'Baby Love' To 'Wannabe': What Are The 15 Greatest Girl Group Songs Of All Time?

Over the past sixty years or so, several girl groups have provided us with irresistible hits that we can't get enough of to this day.  From The Supremes all the way to Fifth Harmony, these ladies knew how to get our pulses going with songs that we still jam to whenever we feel like it.  Which fifteen, though, did we love the most?  Click through to see if your favorite made the cut.

The Supremes: "Baby Love".  Widely considered as the first major girl group in music history, Diana Ross, Mary Wilson & Florence Ballard flew to the top of the charts in 1964 with this infectious hit that is still extremely well-known to this day.

Martha & The Vandellas: "Dancing in the Street".  Charting at the top the same year that "Baby Love" did, this trio scored a massive hit that was co-written by R&B legend Marvin Gaye.  The song has been widely covered by several artists in the rock genre, including The Mamas and The Papas, Van Halen, and David Bowie & Mick Jagger.

Labelle: "Lady Marmalade". The Patti Labelle led girl group scored a massive hit that was incredibly suggestive for the time period that it came out in.  The song found a major resurgence in 2001, when Christina Aguilera, Pink, Lil' Kim, Mya & Missy Elliott remade it for the Moulin Rouge soundtrack and garnered several awards in the process.

Sister Sledge: "We Are Family." This hit, which turns 40 next year, is no doubt one of the most requested songs you'll hear at any sort of "family" related celebration.  And rightfully so, as its message of unity and solidarity still rings true all this time later.

The Bangles: "Walk Like an Egyptian". Susanna Huff and co gave us such a fun pop/rock song to jam to all the way back in 1986, as an onslaught of girl bands instead of groups started coming onto the scene.  Speaking of girl bands...

The Go-Go's: "Our Lips Are Sealed." 2018 marks the 40th anniversary of this legendary girl band forming, and "Our Lips Are Sealed" was one of their many upbeat and fun songs that helped turn these chicks into Rock and Roll legends.

Wilson Phillips: "Hold On." This girl group trio, who grew up in rock royalty (Carnie & Wendy Wilson are the daughter of The Beach Boys frontman Brian Wilson, Chynna Phillips is the daughter of John & Michelle Phillips from The Mamas and the Papas) scored a soft rock number one hit in 1991 that eventually became the number one song of the entire year on the Billboard charts.

En Vogue: "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)".  The 90's found a major presence with R&B and hip-hop girl groups, notably this quartet who scored smooth R&B hit after hit as the decade went on.  This song, which basically lets their men know that there's no more love left to give, certified them as the truest "Funky Divas" of all.

Salt-N-Pepa: "Shoop." This trio is still widely considered the best and only female rap group to ever make it big on and off the charts, and this song was definitely one that solidified them as hip-hop legends back in the 90's.  You can't resist the urge to want to dance when you hear "Here I go, here I go, here I go again."

TLC- "Waterfalls." This trio holds the record for the biggest selling girl group album of all time, CrazySexyCool, and this song definitely helped them reach 14 million copies sold worldwide.  This number one hit told a telltale sign of knowing the limits in your own life, and, as they say, "Don't go chasing waterfalls." Still an instant classic over 20 years later.

Spice Girls: “Wannabe”.  Ginger, Sporty, Scary, Baby & Posh ignited “girl power” for several years after their debut single came blasting into our lives back in 1996. 

Destiny’s Child: “Say My Name”. Before Beyonce became, well, BEYONCE, she scored a number one hit with her former girl group members right at the turn of the millennium. 

Pussycat Dolls featuring Busta Rhymes: “Don’t Cha”. “Doll Domination” definitely occurred in the mid-2000’s, where this ferocious girl group led by Nicole Scherzinger scored a massive summer hit with a little help from rap legend Busta Rhymes. 

Danity Kane: "Damaged”.  Brought together by music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, this short-lived girl group enjoyed major success with this fantastic dance-pop track that earned them a nomination for Best Dance & Pop Video at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards. 

Fifth Harmony: "Work From Home".  These five girls came together courtesy of the reality competition series The X Factor, and enjoyed quite a lot of success with each other before Camila Cabello parted ways back in December of 2016.  "Work From Home" was one of their major hits, as the infectious beat was one we couldn't get enough of in the summer of that year.
