Selling Sunset reality star Mary Fitzgerald and her husband, Romain Bonnet, were legally married two years before the Netflix series filmed.

“Mary and Romain had a civil union a couple of months before the show began filming in June of 2018, but they chose not to tell any of their friends or family, as they were still trying to see if their relationship would work out in the long term,” a representative for Fitzgerald told PEOPLE.

“In their minds, they weren’t properly married until the wedding that was filmed during the show,” the rep added.

The pair first wed at the Ventura County Courthouse on March 9, 2018, TMZ reported. The real estate agent, 39, and her now-husband, 27, had their official wedding on October 12, 2019, which was featured in season 2 of the reality show.

The wedding took place at a stunning private residence in Los Angeles where all of their friends and family gathered, including co-stars, Amanza Smith, Jason Oppenheim, Brett OppenheimChrishell Stause, Heather Young, Christine Quinn, and Maya Vander.

The wedding was filled with romance and class as the mother of one delivered her vows in French, a nod to her husband’s native language.

After disputes between Fitzgerald and the girls — especially from her on-again, off-again friend, Quinn, regarding the couple’s age and financial differences — Bonnet proposed during season 1.

Throughout season 2, the blonde beauty struggled to find a location for her wedding venue until she ultimately ended up choosing her client’s estate. "It was our dream wedding. Neither of us are big, showy kind of people, and we just wanted the people closest to us, where it just felt sincere and comfortable. So that's what we did,” she told PEOPLE.

The couple met through mutual friends back in 2017 and was engaged one year later. Even though the two moved quickly, Bonnet said their whirlwind romance was “just perfect.” He added, “I didn’t want to waste time, and I just wanted to move forward with her and lock it down.”

The popular series has gained a huge fan-base lately, including Cravings author, Chrissy Teigen. However, the model recently admitted she didn’t quite believe the real estate firm actually existed.

Despite the diss, Fitzgerald revealed she was actually psyched when the former Sports Illustrated model admitted she tuned into the show.

“No, I love her. Actually, I was like, I was so fangirling like when I saw that she watched the show,” she gushed to Page Six. “I’m like, ‘Oh, my God!’ Because someone just asked me, ‘Who would you want to have a conversation with?’ … And I was like, ‘the Obamas and Chrissy Teigen’ because I just think she’s like she’s so outspoken and funny and stuff like that.”

Fitzgerald continued, “And she just seems like a cool chick. So I was still fangirling and then she said that, I was like, ‘Oh! That hurt my feelings!'”

“I’m sure she’ll see us around or she’ll end up wanting to buy one of our properties at some point soon,” Fitzgerald said. “Chrissy, call me up!”

Like with any reality show, the on-screen drama is very prevalent in season 3 since Stause’s estranged husband, This is Us star, Justin Hartleyfiled for divorce, giving the girls plenty to talk about.

It is unclear if there will be a season 4 of Selling Sunset, but fans are hopeful that more drama will unfold in the future.
