Busta Rhymes Shares Why Janet Jackson Is His ‘Most Memorable Collaboration’
Busta Rhymes has collaborated with numerous big names over the years, but even he has a favorite. In an exclusive interview with OK!, Busta revealed the most memorable collaboration of his career was his 1999 song with Janet Jackson, “What’s It Gonna Be?!”
Busta revealed he was driving from Long Island to Manhattan when he heard Janet tell radio DJ Angie Martinez on Hot 97 that she’d love to work with the rapper.
“I almost crashed. I pulled over,” Busta said of hearing the news. He instantly called his manager and told her to call Janet. “I said I need you to find Janet Jackson and tell her I have a song for her done already.”
“I didn’t have the song,” Busta confessed. “Confession, Janet, I’m sorry.”
Despite the little white lie, Busta and Janet eventually collaborated, and their song was even nominated for a Grammy for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group at the 2000 Grammy Awards.
