This Duggar Girl Just Got Her First Full-Time Job — Find Out Who!
Amy Duggar is officially a working woman. In another move that separates her from her conservative Duggar cousins, Amy revealed on Instagram Monday, July 2, that she landed her first full-time job.
“I'm happy to announce that I will be working full time mentoring young girls at a local facility here in my hometown,” she captioned a smiling selfie of herself as she headed to work. “I’m ready for this new chapter in my life and I'm just so excited to start fresh! I'm not going to be known as a girl from a reality show. I'm just going to be myself and they will just know me as Amy, something about that sure feels good!”
She added, “I have a 12 hour shift today, so if you are reading this please just say a little prayer!”
The reality star’s decision to enter the workforce was directly inspired by her passion for children and specifically the Turpin children.
“Ever since I saw the story of the Turpin children on television I have felt that God was stirring a passion in my heart to work with kids who have come from such horrible abuse,” she explained. “The type of stories that just break your heart. I've been praying for months that I would find a purpose in life bigger than myself, and bigger than just being on television. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it's just something I have grown out of for now. Who knows what is in store with all of that but for now I feel like I'm really growing as a person and as a women of God!”
Back in January, David Allen Turpin and Louise Anna Turpin were arrested after their 17-year-old daughter escaped their home, called 9-1-1 and told police that her 12 brothers and sisters were being held against their will in shackles and chains in what has become known as the “house of horrors.”
People reported that the 13 kids were so neglected they lack basic life knowledge, such as knowing how to brush their teeth.
The children’s story really hit a nerve with Amy who Tweeted that she wanted to adopt all 13 of them.
“I just texted Dillon and told him I wanted to adopt all 13 Turpin children,” she wrote at the time. “I would love to show them true love and have a beautiful life and provide a secure and stable home for them. #ifonly #houseofhorrors God can restore what the devil has stolen?.”
While Amy was unable to adopt the Turpin children, she’s turned her words into actions by getting a job, helping at-risk adolescents.
