Grand Jury Votes To Indict Harvey Weinstein On Rape & Criminal Sexual Act Charges

Harvey Weinstein has officially been indicted on rape and criminal sexual act charges.

In a statement released this afternoon, Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance, Jr. announced the news.

“A Grand Jury has voted to indict Harvey Weinstein on charges of Rape in the First and Third Degrees, and Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree,” the statement began.

“This indictment brings the defendant another step closer to accountability for the crimes of violence with which he is now charged. Our office will try this case not in the press, but in the courtroom where it belongs,” Cyrus said in the statement. “The defendant’s recent assault on the integrity of the survivors and the legal process is predictable. We are confident that when the jury hears the evidence, it will reject these accounts out of hand.”

In his statement, the district attorney thanked “heroic survivors for their strength throughout this process” and also said that he and the New York City Police Department “urge additional survivors” to come forward.

On Friday morning, Harvey turned himself into NYC police and pled not guilty to the charges against him. Harvey has been accused of sexual harassment and assault by dozens of women, including Ashley Judd, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Rose McGowan.
