Jessa and Jill Duggar Admit They've Tried Alcohol: ‘Not On Purpose’

Jessa and Jill Duggar may have followed their family’s strict rules to the letter while living under their parents’ roof, but they admittedly slipped up a few times.

In a recently resurfaced 2014 Cosmopolitan magazine interview, the sisters, who were at the time 21 (Jessa) and 22 (Jill), revealed they had accidentally tried a few sips of alcohol here and there.

“Not on purpose!” Jill responded after being asked if she had ever tasted alcohol.

“We're really heavily involved in politics, and sometimes it's one of those fancy, ritzy events and they serve you what you think is punch and it's not,” Jill explained. “You're like, "Oops, yeah, that wasn't punch. That was champagne or something."

While the sisters admittedly had a sip or two of alcohol, they admitted that they didn’t feel like they were missing anything by choosing not to drink.

“It's disgusting tasting,” Jessa said at the time.

Jill even said that she spit it out whenever she accidentally took a sip.

“I think it's true you've got to develop a taste for that stuff because it don't taste good,” Jessa said.

As Duggar fans know, the family follows a strict set of rules including – no kissing, full-hugs, or sex before marriage, and no drinking of alcohol. The women in the family also abide by a conservative dress code, which only allows them to wear below the knee skirts and dresses -- no pants allowed.
