Joe & Kendra Duggar Reveal Relationship Secrets From Their Early Courting Days
Joseph and Kendra Duggar’s love story is one filled with laughter, faith, and lots of love! On the couple’s website, the newlyweds recently revealed new details about how they fell in love, started courting, and ultimately decided to get married.
Joe started off the post by explaining how he first developed a “good friendship” with Kendra’s dad before even knowing Kendra.
“However, the more I talked with her and observed her from a distance, the more impressed I became with her godly character and her sweet and gentle spirit,” he wrote. “The more I got to know about her as a person, the more I was drawn to her.”
“I knew that pursuing a relationship would be a big decision, so I talked with my parents and I fasted and prayed,” Joe continued. “I asked the Lord to lead me and show me if this was His will and direction for my life. During this time, I started talking more with Kendra’s parents as well.”
So just what was it about Kendra that captured Joe’s heart?
“There was something special about this girl,” he explained. “I saw such sincerity in her love for the Lord and for people. There were times when I would see young people who were actively serving in their churches, but sometimes I would get the feeling that it was out of a sense of duty or because of the expectations of people around them. However, as I observed Kendra day-in and day-out, I could see that her reason for serving and giving stemmed from her heart. It was based in a deep-rooted love for Jesus, and that’s something that seems so rare to find in today’s world.”
Joe then went on to explain how he knew Kendra was “the one.” However, like any normal budding relationship, the journey to take that next step didn’t come without a few curveballs.
“It didn’t take long for me to became convinced that Kendra was the girl I wanted to pursue! I reached out to her parents, letting them know my intentions in this friendship with their daughter. But as timing would have it, this conversation occurred right as their whole family was leaving town for a two-week vacation,” he wrote. “This time of being apart wasn’t necessarily easy for me, but it was good for me. I had plenty to keep me busy, as I was finishing up my studies in order to get my Real Estate license. However, the days did seem to drag by, and I was so excited when they returned home!”
“Kendra and I started talking to each other A LOT,” he continued. “From the time of our very first long and in-depth conversation, I could see that we had a lot of common goals and interests. Over the next few months we were enjoying getting to know each other, and there were plenty of stories shared from our childhoods, as well as lists of personal favorites and such… We had truly become each other’s best friends!”
With such a solid foundation, Joe said he knew the time was right for him to ask for Kendra to be his girlfriend.
“In February 2017, I asked Kendra’s dad for permission to court his daughter, and he and his wife gave their blessing,” he wrote, before explaining how he surprised Kendra by popping the courtship question at his childhood home. “I presented Kendra with a promise ring as a token of my commitment to her. Our courtship began, and we were so excited for the future!”
