Kate Spade’s Husband Releases Statement, Calls Her Death A ‘Complete Shock’

Andy Spade has broken his silence on his wife Kate Spade’s death. In a statement released to the New York Times, Andy called Kate’s death “a complete shock” and denied reports that problems in their marriage led to her reported suicide.

“Kate was the most beautiful woman in the world. She was the kindest person I’ve ever known and my best friend for 35 years,” Andy’s statement began. “My daughter and I are devastated by her loss, and can’t even begin to fathom life without her. We are deeply heartbroken and miss her already."

Andy acknowledged that Kate “suffered from depression and anxiety for many years” but was “actively seeking help and working closely with her doctors to treat her disease.” Andy also said Kate “sounded happy” the night before her passing.

“There was no indication and no warning that she would do this. It was a complete shock. And it clearly wasn’t her. There were personal demons she was battling,” he stated.

As for rumors the two were on the verge of a divorce, Andy admitted he and Kate had been “living separately, but within a few blocks of each other” for 10 months but said they never “legally separated, and never even discussed divorce.”

“We were together for 35 years. We loved each other very much and simply needed a break,” Andy explained.

Andy also denied claims Kate had substance or alcohol abuse problems or business problems. He also claimed he had yet to see Kate’s reported suicide note in which she allegedly told their daughter Beatrice to “Ask Daddy.”

“My main concern is Bea and protecting her privacy as she deals with the unimaginable grief of losing her mother. Kate loved Bea so very much,” Andy finished.

Kate was found dead in her New York City apartment on Tuesday, June 5. She was known for launching the iconic fashion brand Kate Spade, which was known for its iconic handbags.
