Inside Eclipse's Victoria Re-Casting Decision

After Summit Pictures announced that Rachelle Lefevre, who plays bad vampire Victoria in Twilight and the upcoming New Moon, would be replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard for Eclipse, many Twi-hards were downright shocked. So what exactly is going on with this "scheduling conflict"?
E! Online reports that money could be at the root of the recast: After filming the first two vavmp movies, Rachelle got a pay increase for the third, sources tell E!. She then signed on for indie flick Barney's Version, and planned on filming it between New Moon and Eclipse.
However, director David Slade changed some things in the shooting schedule for Eclipse, causing some overlaps with Barney's Version.
"Summit could have made it work," E! quotes a source as saying. "But they saw that they could save a lot of money by recasting her. This could get really messy."
Messy as in Rachelle's people could insist she still get paid, since Summit was responsible for the scheduling change that caused the conflict.
