Jay Leno Vs David Letterman: It Gets Personal
Jan. 21 2010, Published 3:32 p.m. ET
Conan O'Brien may have signed an enormous exit contract with NBC, but Jay Leno is getting his satisfaction elsewhere — by getting back at David Letterman.
The gap-toothed late night host has had a riot with the NBC debacle, taking pot-shots at Jay whenever possible, and last night, the normally genial host got his revenge, reports Popeater.
During his monologue, Jay said, "Letterman has been hammering me every night" and turning to his band leader Kevin Eubanks, he asked, "Hey Kev, you know the best way to get Letterman to ignore you? Marry him. He will not bother you. He won't look you in the eye."
Jay was making reference to Dave's infidelity which he announced in late 2009 to protect himself from an alleged extortionist.
Earlier this week Dave described Jay's return to NBC's late night rosta, squeezing out Conan in the process, as "vintage Jay". He told the audience, "So last night, Jay gave his state of the network speech, and he said that we should not blame Conan for what's going on. And I said to myself, 'No one is blaming Conan.'"
