On Dorinda Medley’s debut season of Real Housewives of New York, not only has her relationship with boyfriend John Mahdessian come under fire, but she has also found herself in the crossfire of her co-stars’ fights. Regardless of the drama, the show’s new girl isn’t letting that stop her from returning for a second season!
In an exclusive interview with OKMagazine.com, Medley revealed why she wants to return to the show and how her relationship with her longtime boyfriend won’t fall victim to the Bravo’s breakup curse.
“I hopefully will return next season,” Medley told OKMagazine.com at Haute Hippie’s shopping party to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
The Bravo star explained that the show came at an “important time” in her life, as her husband Richard Medley passed away almost four years ago.
“I got into a little bit of a rut after that,” she explained. “It was like falling off a bike. I didn’t know how to get back on.”
After best friend and RHONY vet Ramona Singer encouraged her to join the show, Medley confessed the experience has been like “rehab” for her.
“It got me back out, it got me involved and it got me into a routine,” she explained. “I know these girls. It wasn’t like me entering into something that was totally bizarre or unnatural. It was a very healing experience.”
Despite the show’s positive effect on her life, Medley’s storyline kicked off with the ladies questioning her boyfriend’s intentions after he was spotted hitting a NYC hotspot without her. In a later episode, he was criticized for getting too close with co-stars Sonja Morgan and Kristen Taekman.

But despite the way he’s been portrayed on the show, Medley insisted they’ll continue to overcome any obstacles that come their way.
“I don’t believe in this Bravo curse,” she said. “It’s a situation that accelerates anything that was going to happen anyway. If you’re having problems in your relationship, this puts more of a focus on it.”

She added, “If you’re strong enough, which I know we are, we love each other, I’m sure we’ll make it through.”
The show has also helped Medley get back involved with causes she’s passionate about, such as Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
“I just believe in the cause. I believe in what it represents,” she explained. “Especially at this time with what is going on with Caitlyn Jenner. The more awareness, the more integration and the more comfort. This is such a colorful event and such a great cause to promote.”
