The entertainment industry is in mourning today after news that famed action director, Tony Scott, jumped to his death from the Vincent Thomas Bridge at the Los Angeles Harbour yesterday afternoon.
Droves of celebrities tweeted their sorrow for the director's untimely death, which seemed to come out of nowhere as the married father of two enjoyed success recently as a producer for The Good Wife, Prometheus and Numb3rs.
A source close to Tony, however, reveals he was battling inoperable brain cancer, which may have spurred the suicide. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed today.
Tony directed Tom Cruise in Top Gun and Days of Thunder (where he met ex-wife Nicole Kidman) and helped catapult Denzel Washington to fame by directing him five times in Crimson Tide, Man on Fire, Déjà Vu, The Taking of Pelham 123 and Unstoppable.
“More than any other actor, he always surprises me,” Tony once said of Denzel. “He always manages to pull out a different aspect of Denzel.”
Meanwhile, the star condolences continue to flood Twitter.
'"I make a movie because it's something that inspires me' — Tony Scott 6/21/44 – 8/19/12. Your movies inspired me . . ." tweeted Dwayne Johnson.
While both Chris Rock and Dane Cook site Tony's movies as some of their favorite.
"Tony Scott director of my favorite movie, Man on Fire. I wish you had more time." wrote Chris, while a "devastated" Dane trumpeted one of his "top five" movies of all time True Romance.
