Joan Rivers has passed away at age 81, and the world has lost yet another comedy legend. If you only know Joan from her barbs about celebrities on Fashion Police, then you might be totally unaware of her impact on the world of comedy, particularly on women in comedy. And you might not know what a sweet delight she was!

OK! News: See celebrities’ tweets about the loss of Joan Rivers.

The 2010 documentary Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work took a look at Joan’s story, including the painful suicide of her husband Edgar after her talk show failed. Here are a few clips from the amazing film.

“No man has ever called me beautiful,” Joan explained in one scene, while discussing her body image. Since so many people loved poking fun at Joan’s surgery, it’s so painful to see.

She talked about her pioneering role in comedy, including her joke on TV about abortion.

Joan’s work ethic is perhaps the most impressive aspect of the doc. She kept every joke she’s ever written alphabetized in a cabinet in her palatial New York City apartment!

The sweetest scene in the film is definitely when Joan and her grandson spend Thanksgiving delivering meals to the ill and lonely. It’s lovely to see her relationship with her grandson, as well as her kindness toward others.
