Why Is Halle Berry's Marriage with Olivier Martinez Already on the Rocks?

Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez have been married just a little over a year, but things are already falling apart—and career friction seems to be a major reason.

Rumors of trouble began in March, when Halle, 47, was hard at work shooting her new CBS series, Extant, in Los Angeles. An insider says that Olivier, 48, rarely visited his wife on set, despite having plenty of time to do so. “His career has dried up,” says he source. “He’s been taking small TV roles, but nothing that has tied him down for more than a handful of episodes.” Meanwhile, Halle threw herself into her work, even toting the couple’s 10-month-old son, Maceo, on set with her.

Olivier’s professional slump has also produced an unfortunate side effect: a potbelly and unkempt facial hair have taken the place of his once smoldering good looks. “Halle has lost a bit of respect for him,” the source says. “The spark they once had has burned out.” Things have gotten so tense, the couple didn’t even spend their one-year anniversary together in July. The insider says they’ve all but given up on trying to make their marriage work.

“The whole family was supposed to go on a make-or-break holiday, but that fell apart because neither Olivier nor Halle wanted to make it happen,” the source says. “They have drifted apart and only get together for the sake of Maceo. They’re just delaying the inevitable—announcing their split.”
