Emma Watson: American Men Are More "Open and Straightforward" Than British Men

Emma Watson swung by Ellen DeGeneres this week and revealed to the talk show host that she was in for quite a dating culture shock when she entered Brown University in 2009.

"English guys are very well put together," she said, choosing her words carefully. "They dress really well and they are very well mannered. But they are also very restrained."

She continues, saying she feels "ignored" when Brits court her, until they "acknowledge my presence. Then, they'll probably be a little mean to me."

Ouch!

So clearly a little time in Rhode Island was a breath of fresh air.

"Then I arrive in America," she recalled, "and I remember a few nights into Brown University, this guy just being like, 'I like you. You're great. Let's go on a date. Let's do it.' I'm like, 'I'm sorry, what just happened?'"

No word on how the date went, other than Emma saying American guys are "open and very straightforward."

"But they wear flip-flops," she said, making a face. "I don't know if I like that."
