During the red carpet for his latest film, The Dark Tower, Matthew McConaughey reacts to the passing of his former co-star, Sam Shepard, from the movie Mud.
Matthew has nothing but kind words to say about the 73-year-old Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright who died on July 27th.
"I always told Jeff Nichols, I said look in Mud, the whole trailer for Mud, could be Sam Shepard sitting in that green chair telling the boy about whom Mud is. Be about a two and a half minute trailer but it would have been really bad a**," Matthew tells a reporter of the Associated Press.
"He moved on today, we lost one of the great ones. Great writer…huh, alright, see you in the next one Sam."
Director Jeff Nichols was very fond of Sam, "I'd written the role for him -- because I like to write parts for people I don't know and have no real option of getting. But they just showed it to his agent, and one of the best days of my life is the phone call where I heard, ‘We got a response from Sam’s agent, from Sam: He said not to change a word.’ That’s Sam Shepard — Pulitzer Prize winning writer Sam Shepard," Jeff mentioned during a conversation at Sundance in 2013.

"He was great. And I think he’s really great in the part. One of my favorite scenes in the whole movie is the scene between he and Tye, where he kind of has that speech where he lays out what’s going on."
Sam's plays redefined the landscape of the American West and its inhabitants.
