Elaine LaLanne on Husband Jack LaLanne's Passing: I've Lost My Best Friend

After a long, energetic and healthy life, fitness guru Jack LaLanne succumbed to complications from pneumonia, passing away yesterday at the age of 96. The American icon preached the importance of a healthy lifestyle for almost a century. His wife Elaine LaLanne — a fitness advocate as well — released a statement expressing her grief.

"I have not only lost my husband and a great American icon, but the best friend and most loving partner anyone could ever hope for," Jack's wife of 51 years and a frequent partner in his television appearances said in a statement.

Jack was a fitness legend, celebrated for his energetic lease on life.

He had his own fitness show that was a hit from the 50s to the 70s. Later in his career. Jack promoted his Power Juicer for juicing raw fruits and vegetables.

"The only way you can hurt the body is not use it," Jack is famous for preaching. "Inactivity is the killer and, remember, it's never too late."
