Daryl Hall knows a lot about club promoters who just don’t care. That’s why when HBO approached the music biz vet to do a cameo as one on the series Flight of The Conchords, he barely even had to act. ‘I’ve known about a thousand of them. That was an easy part to play. If you blinked you might have missed it,’ he joked exclusively to OK!.’They literally called me up because apparently Bret and Jemaine are big fans of Hall and Oates,’ he added, ‘Right at the beginning of the season they called me and they said we need this club promoter for an episode, so do you want to do it. I saw the pilot and I knew it was going to be big’But don’t think that Daryl is new to the comedy game. In his humble opinion, ‘This show was right up my street. I was happy to do it. I’m a walking cartoon. I like comedy. I think I would be at my best at comedy or as a super villain. I have an extreme personality.’Way back in the day he and music partner John Oates has an idea for a show with almost the same premise as Flight of the Conchords: ‘When John and I first got together we wish we could have done a show that depicted getting started in the business in a comedic way. In the beginning of a career, things like that happen all the time. When you’re starting out you play all different strange holes in the wall and hope for the best.’For those who missed it, Daryl hopes they’ll use some extra footage in another episode. ‘I also did a whole bunch of adlib stuff afterward between the band and their manager. I don’t know if they’ll use it in another episode.’You can currently catch Hall and Oates on tour. Flight of the Conchords airs Sundays on HBO.Jocelyn VenaPhoto: Wireimage
