Selena Gomez Opens Up On Ellen: “I Know I’m Not Perfect,” Rates Herself A 7
Selena Gomez opened up in a big way on Monday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
The 22-year-old singer, who has had a tumultuous year—from her on-again, off-again relationship with Justin Bieber to voluntarily checking into rehab to ditching her parents as managers—revealed how she’d rank her self-improvement progress over the past year.

“I’m a seven,” she said. “I feel like I have been doing this for so long that people are like, ‘Be yourself, be yourself,’ and I’m still trying to figure out who that is. I know I’m not perfect, but I know that I have a lot of people that support me and love me. I don’t want to let anyone down so I just try to be the best I can be. It’s awkward being 20.”
The “Come And Get It” singer has had a lot of change this year. In April, she enlisted the help of a new manager after firing her mother and stepdad, Mandy and Brian Teefey. She also moved out of her family home and into her own house in Los Angeles.

“I can walk around naked now and stuff,” Gomez joked of having her own space. “Honestly, I just enjoy not being able to have to check in all the time. My mom is the sweetest ever so even now she checks in on me.”
And though she lives with a friend from Texas, her bestie, Taylor Swift has been trying to get her to move to New York City.

“Yes, she wants to kidnap me,” she said. “She’s been begging me every time I get on the phone with her to move to New York because it’s been a really good thing for her. We’ve been friends for seven years, and she really feels like she stepped into her own and became a woman there. She’s like, ‘Alright, your turn. now come on.’ I feel like I might eventually, but not right now.”
