Britney: Scary to Put Yourself Out There
Nov. 25 2008, Published 4:55 a.m. ET
The return of Britney Spears, back from the edge of tragedy, has been building in momentum for months now, and the image of her healthy and glowing on the cover of the new Rolling Stone is just one more strong reminder that she truly is back.
This cover and story is in stark contrast to her last one, an article chronicling the tragic downturn her career and personal life had taken. The pop star seems to be back to her old self.
"I feel like an old person now," she says in the interview. "I do! I go to bed at, like, 9:30 every night, and I don't go out or anything, you know what I mean? I just feel like an old fart."

Old fart or not, the Britster is definitely going for it full force with her new album Circus, as well as a 90-minute documentary on MTV, set to air Nov. 30.
"It's scary to put yourself out there and be like, 'Oh, God, is that cool?' If you're not going to really go for it, you can't just go there halfway.," she reveals. "But sometimes, when you go for it, you can't lose."
Her life these days isn't all about engineering her return to the pop scene, however, as she's spending more and more time with her sons Sean Preston and Jayden James, whom she lost custody of earlier this year to ex-husband Kevin Federline.
"Every time they come to visit me, I think about how they're such special people," she says. "Like, they're going to preschool now! I went there to pick them up on Friday, and seeing them in their little classroom and seeing Jayden being bad or not listening? It's like, those are mine, and it's just crazy, you know what I mean? And the things that are coming out of their mouths right now — they're learning so much, and it's new, and you never know what they're going to say, and they're so smart yet so innocent."

Being away from her boys is the toughest thing for Brit, and she seems determined to hold onto them this time.
"I didn't think my husband was gonna leave me," she confesses in the interview. "Otherwise, I'd be with my babies 24/7. But since they're almost like twins, they both take care of each other. I think they look like me. They don't look like their father at all," she continues. "And it's weird 'cause they're starting to learn words like 'stupid,' and Preston says the f-word now sometimes. He doesn't get it from us. He must get it from his daddy. I say it, but not around my kids."
